Starting point: Plave
The trail runs past the famous Solkan Bridge and crosses the Soča River in Solkan on a footbridge, which also happens to be the longest suspension bridge in Slovenia. Merely crossing it gives you an adrenaline rush. For an even bigger kick, head to the nearby Soča Fun Park, go bungee jumping off the nearby bridge or take to the wild waters at the kayak centre. The trail crosses a large field that grows the famous Solkan radicchio – a highly cherished gourmet vegetable. Be sure to make a stop at Europe Square, which is a symbol of the conurbation of the twin cities Nova Gorica and Gorizia, and a beacon of European integration and successful dissolution of national borders. The square lies directly in front of the railway station in Nova Gorica. From here, take a tour of the fledgling city of Nova Gorica, continue towards Gorizia in Italy or cycle along the border all the way to Šempeter pri Gorici. The trail features a myriad of opportunities for lovely breaks, sightseeing and culinary stops.
