What to do when it’s hot outside?

Summers in the Vipava Valley can get sweltering. Fortunately, cooler areas are within reach. The mountain plateaus are typically about ten degrees Celsius cooler than the valley, and the forested expanse of the Trnovo Forest, Banjšice and Nanos makes for a more than welcome respite from the heat. All you need to do is choose your preferred cycling or hiking trail. Be sure to visit the nature reserves of Golaki, Paradana, and Smrečje, where you can cool off in the frost hollows.

Cycling under the forest canopy

Go to the web app vipavavalleyoutdoor.si to choose your preferred route to get to the plateaus. Local bike rental providers will happily shuttle the bikes to the trailhead and provide either a guided tour or instructions for self-guided cycling.

Charming hiking trails

Go to the web app vipavavalleyoutdoor.si and choose your desired trail. On hot days, we suggest starting your hikes on trails situated between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, which ultimately lead to higher peaks. At your lodging or at a tourist information centre, inquire about transportation options for hikers from the valley to the plateau.

Cooling off by the water

The Vipava River, meandering through the entire Vipava Valley, and the Soča River in Solkan, where two vastly different aquatic worlds converge, provide delightful refreshment and opportunities for water sports during the summer. Care to go on a little paddling adventure, visit Soča fun park or go to a tranquil fishing excursion? Alternatively, on a sweltering day, you might consider a refreshing dip in the city's swimming pool, a spot where the whole family can enjoy some cooling off.
