Why do we say ours is a Paradise Valley?
We didn't just make this name up for bragging rights or attention. The Vipava Valley was bestowed the adjective "paradise" long ago, by knowledgeable greats. At least three of them have inspired us with their writings:
Janez Vajkard Valvasor, 17th-century polymath, described the "heavenly fruits" of our region in his vast encyclopaedia, The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, and particularly praised the wine.
Matija Vertovec, priest, scholarly viticulturist and the first teacher of local winegrowers, dedicated an early-19th century sermon to the "Garden of Eden" as he personally called the Vipava Valley.
Ciril Zlobec, Slovenian poet and writer, at the end of the 20th century named the valley no less modestly, the "Little Slovenian Eden".
Today, you can see for yourself whether these famous men were right. At the tastings of unique local wines, in top restaurants and agritourism farms, among the millennia-old stories of cultural sites, along modern cycling, hiking and jogging trails, socializing with the hospitable people ... Locals know that the Paradise Valley is real, having lived in it and enjoyed its boons at every turn.
