Let's Get some Fresh Air!
Nature offers true relaxation
A bit of change is always welcome, this year especially so. We've never had to spend so much time indoors, in front of all kinds of gadgets. The digital detox, a rest from the constant exposure to technology is no longer something people will need in the future. The pandemic has accelerated our screen time, and time away from the digital world is what we need here and now. Let's get some fresh air! The Vipava Valley and the Goriška are in the spring a blossoming paradise where the natural environment provides plenty opportunity for rest, peace, activities in nature and a range of healthful experiences.
The perfect family adventure
Family vacation plans usually start with the standard questions. What are we going to do? Where can we get moving, see new things and spend a nice day outdoors? Family adventures in the Vipava Valley and Goriška are found in pristine nature, the many natural and cultural landmarks, pleasant countryside and easy-going urban settlements. The Trnovo and Banjšice plateaus are filled with a variety of hiking trails, too, and so planning a relaxed hiking or cycling trip for the family is a breeze. Sites can include some of the fascinating natural landmarks or the discovery of unusual karst phenomena. Children will be happy to know that the steep cliffs of the Trnovo Plateau used to be a coral reef once upon a time, as the valley lay under the sea. More curious stories abound! In Ajdovščina you can follow the Educational Trail along the River Hubelj up to its impressive karstic spring, encountering along the way also the remnants of centuries-old ironworks. Near Nova Gorica you can see the Sabotin Peace Park, a great chance to delve into the history of the Great War while enjoying splendid views of the two Gorizias, frontier twin cities now living in borderless harmony.
More ideas for wandering the land are found on our web portal or by getting in touch with our tourist information centres, answering calls around the clock. Inspiration to plan a multi-day getaway is also found among our top family adventures, this year expanded and available as soon as they're greenlighted by Slovenia's health authorities.
Cycling, hiking and sporting paradise
In the Vipava Valley, the Goriška and surrounding tall plateaus rounding out this unique karstic landscape at the western edge of Slovenia, nearly all outdoor activities are available throughout the year. With the exception of water sports, fishing and certain adrenaline adventures; the hiking, cycling, paragliding or hang gliding, climbing, horse riding and other activities may be enjoyed literally any month of the year. Diverse terrain with many exciting stops, gentle Mediterranean climate and wide selection of trails offers something for everyone, including recreational sportspeople looking for a proper challenge, while increasingly hosting professional competitions, too. Another year in a row, the Vipava Valley and Goriška play setting to the challenging cross-country race Ultra Trail Vipava Valley, and we're especially looking forward to the two great cycling races coming up. After a few absent years, the famous Giro'd Italia is again holding a stage in the valley, while the royal leg of our Tour of Slovenia starts in Ajdovščina and ends on Mt Sveta Gora. In recent years, cyclists have been rediscovering many trails of varying difficulty with the delightful addition of culinary-wine treasures. And so, the paradise valley caters to cyclists with twofold satisfaction. Explore it today, and make plans for your cycling holidays when the doors of our restaurants, inns and agritourism farms are again open wide.
