The Biggest Sports Event in the Region

Rallying in the Vipava Valley has a long-standing tradition. Set up on steep slopes with hairpin turns, the local roads are a real challenge for rally drivers. The event is a huge crowd magnet that never fails to draw spectators to the Vipava Valley.

The Vipava Valley Rally takes place in the area of Ajdovščina and Vipava, and runs over some spectacular road sections, e.g. the serpentines of Velike Žablje called žabeljske ride. The super special stage that takes place at night in the centre of Ajdovščina is another highlight; meanwhile the spectacular day-time speed trials across the hills of the region draw thousands of spectators. Onlookers can get settled right next to the track and admire the drivers’ skills in the exhilarating hairpin turns and other challenging road sections, whilst themselves chilling in the natural amphitheatre of the vine-laced hills. The rally is a one- or two-day sporting affair and a chance to get together with other petrol heads.

A tip: go and visit any of the agritourism farms located in the proximity of the race track, and taste the regional delicacies of the Vipava Valley.
