Tour of Slovenia
Starting in Ljubljana and finishing in Nova Gorica, one leg of this year’s Tour of Slovenia will shine a spotlight on the Vipava Valley and Goriška Region. The 3th stage of the international Tour of Slovenia will run through a captivating landscape which will also be unfolding itself before the viewers in a live broadcast.
Held for the 30th time in a row, the Tour of Slovenia is the largest cycling event in Slovenia, hosting cyclists from more than twenty teams. With stages located across different parts of Slovenia, the famous “green loop” has been held under the motto "Fight for green” for several years now.
Once again, the picture-book Vipava Valley and the uniquely seamless conurbation of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, and Gorizia, Italy, will play host to top-level athletes. The third stage will start in Ljubljana and end on Kidričeva Street in Nova Gorica.
On 14 June, the 160.5 km route will take cyclists across Vipava Valley and the Goriška Region, with a detour across the border to Italy and the hilly countryside of Goriška Brda. The stage is marked by challenging ascents and descents, a beautiful natural backdrop and natural and cultural landmarks which will be presented to over 10 million viewers from around the world in a live broadcast.
The Vipava Valley, an area of outstanding beauty, wine and good food, treats visitors with unparalleled hospitality and unique experiences at all times not just during the tour. The local inns and agritourism farms serve up delicious locally sourced dishes for guests travelling by bike or otherwise. Surrounded by high karst plateaus and winegrowing hills, the valley opens up into the today border-free Goriška Region to the west. A year-round attractive cycling destination for recreational cyclists, the area exudes a unique charm that keeps cyclists coming back time and time again.
