A celebration of the town’s industry and entrepreneurship
For centuries, Ajdovščina has been the industrial heart of the Vipava Valley and touted for its progressiveness and acumen. Ever since the 16th century, when the first iron works had emerged along the Hubelj River, it was a place of industriousness and bold business ideas. To this day the favourable transport position of the valley, its openness and century-long blending of cultures coupled with a rich industrial heritage continue to inspire and feed its entrepreneurial spirit. Moreover, Ajdovščina boasts groundbreaking businesses and a high corporate culture. Many companies have successfully made inroads on international markets, and a few even made it to the very top of their respective branches. New businesses, in particular high-tech companies popping up left and right, continually come up with amazing innovations. But despite the business boom, Ajdovščina remains a green town; modern industry is environmentally friendly. In fact, there are many respects in which industry can and does enrich the community and the environment.
The great creative potential of industry and entrepreneurship based in Ajdovščina will be presented at this year’s edition of InCastra, hopefully the first of many events of this type to come. On 22 and 23 September 2017 Ajdovščina-based companies will open their doors to offer a glimpse of their daily operations to the public.
The first day of the event is aimed at school-age youth and job seekers. They will get a sense of the companies’ business activities on organized company walkthroughs. This will help youths to get to know local businesses and professions, perhaps guiding their decision about where to continue their education.
The events of the second day will take place on Ajdovščina Airfield. The central venue will feature company presentations and a mixer event. A very special highlight of InCastra will be the Fly-in – this parallel event will bring together pilots of ultralight aircrafts and general aviation pilots. Since the dawn of ultralight aviation, the Vipava Valley has been the cradle of Slovenian ultralight aviation, gaining recognition and respect among pilots in Slovenia and beyond. Most of the attendants will fly in with their own aircrafts. Visitors will be able to admire the famous Pipistrel aircrafts; designed and made in Ajdovščina, they are considered to be the world's most cutting edge ultralight aircrafts. The event will also feature panoramic flights.
The Josip Križaj Ajdovščina Aeroclub will mark the 60th anniversary of its aviation school at the Fly-in. The airfield hangar will host an exhibition outlining aviation on Slovenian soil during the First World War under the heading On the Wings of History 1915–1917.

Based on the initiative of the Ajdovščina Municipality, InCastra is organized by Ljudska univerza Ajdovščina in collaboration with ROD Agency for Development Ajdovščina and other local development organisations and business associations.
