On Gora where the views are fabulous
Peek through the Otlica Natural Window and visit the Sinji Vrh 1000 metres above the sea.
Mt Gora at the edge of the Trnovo Forest Plateau is a meeting place of many trails. Each is so curious and special it would be a pity not to visit. When you've experienced Gora once, you'll want to keep coming back.
Gora is unique and fascinating. Magnificent nature impresses: caves, sinkholes, limestone pavements, grooves, fossilized corals, a vast diversity of flora and fauna. Nearly every karst phenomenon also has its story: merry, mischievous or sad. Folk tales, myths and anecdotes will enchant the young and old here. Have you heard the one about the origin of the Otlica Natural Window? They say the window in the rock was made when the devil took too much weight on his shoulders, tripping and poking a hole in the mountain with his horn.
The Otlica Natural Window is one of Mt Gora's major natural landmarks. The natural window in the coral rock ridge offers a highly unusual view of the Vipava Valley. With its odd shape and interesting looks, the children will love it. The easiest way up there leads from the nearby village Otlica. The trail is marked, look for signs across from the village restaurant.
In the close vicinity of the Otlica Window you can also visit the stone spiral, interesting architectural-artistic piece, and then follow the marked trail to the Sinji Vrh Hill. When the weather is clear, the hilltop a good 1000 metres or so tall offers marvellous views all the way up to the sea. A great place to rest, or better yet enjoy tasty lunch at the Sinji Vrh Boarding House offering local and seasonal dishes from ingredients made on their organic farm. Packing tasty foods and great impressions, you can descend back to the starting point.
