Church of St. Peter in Dobravlje

Behind the distinct Gothic exterior of the church of St. Peter near Dobravlje is virtually a museum of the artwork by Baroque painter Anton Cebej. Upon entering the church, the first thing you see is the opulent Baroque altarpiece painted by Cebej. Behind the marble altar, Anton Cebej painted an architectural altarpiece that enriches the chancel’s interior. Along with the breath-taking ceiling frescoes, there are two more highly compelling altarpieces by Cebej; the painting of St. John and Paul in particular steals the show and features the first view of the Vipava Valley facing Vipavski Križ.
