Miren Museum Collection
The Miren Museum Collection – Vsemir – The Border at the Miren Cemetery exhibition recounts the remarkable tale of the border that was drawn in 1947, effectively dividing the Miren cemetery and splitting it between Yugoslavia and Italy. As it cut through the cemetery, the border separated not only the living but also the dead—relatives could visit their loved ones’ graves only with special permits.
The collection brings this extraordinary chapter of history to life through objects, documents, and personal testimonies of those who lived with the border every day. It also sheds light on smuggling, the duties of border guards, and the life stories indelibly shaped by the line that once divided two countries.
