Rihemberk Castle
Perched on a steep slope overlooking the village of Branik stands Rihemberk Castle, one of the most picturesque castles in the country, and a monument of national importance. The site featured traces of a prehistoric fortress, whereas the castle itself was built in the late 12th century. The impressive Gothic bergfried dominating over the area was erected in the 13th century. Later, the castle was enhanced with two curtain wall sections and several towers. The Lanthieri family, which acquired it in the mid-17th century, gave the castle its final look. The structure was burnt down in the Second World War. After a long period of dereliction, renovation work was commenced and partially completed in 2017 with the reconstruction of the building complex.
