From the Vineyards to the Waterfalls
This hike, organized by the Slap – Village of Golden Drops wine tourism association, is the best way to get to know the village of Slap, along with its attractions and old customs.
The culturally rich village of Slap holds this traditional hike from the vineyards to the waterfalls every second Sunday in April. Hikers start from the old cobblestoned village square and start along the trail, which is great for the whole family. Members of the wine tourism association set up several stops along the trail where hikers can grab a bite to eat and indulge in interesting presentations of local customs. When you get back to the square there will be a hot lunch and warm conversation waiting for you.
You can use the opportunity to walk among the old narrow alleys and stone portals, which speak to the rich cultural heritage of this small village in the Vipava Valley. In fact the village’s castle was home to the first Slovenian agricultural school, founded in 1873. Slap is also home to a lot of beautifully preserved homesteads from the beginning of the 18th century. Residents rebuilt all the stone portals, fountains, and engraved inscriptions on building facades, and thus preserved the rich cultural heritage left to them by their predecessors.
