Starting point: in the heart of Solkan, right next to the Solkan well.
Hit the trail from Jože Srebrnič Square in the heart of Solkan. Begin by pedaling towards Nova Gorica and take the first exit at the roundabout. At the next large intersection follow signs for Gorizia in Italy. Turn left before the border, and soon you will be at the railway station, the oldest building in Nova Gorica, featuring the Transalpina Square in front of it, where you can stand with one foot in Slovenia and one foot in Italy. Cross the road at the next intersection and turn right onto the cycling trail that leads along the border all the way to Šempeter pri Gorici. Here you’ll join the road and follow it to the highway underpass. You will go back on the bike at the next intersection, on the right of the main road. Pedal among the fields to the military guard tower, which houses the smallest museum in Slovenia, portraying life along the Italian border. After the museum pedal ahead on the cycling trail southward. At the main road you’ll turn left and take the first exit at the roundabout. Follow the main road to the intersection and then follow signs towards Nova Gorica. You will pass the largest contiguous vineyard in Slovenia, the Bilje Hills, which stretch out over an area of 250 hectares. The trail then goes through the village of Vrtojba to Šempeter pri Gorici, where you will once again pedal on the cycling trail along the border until Nova Gorica. When you get to Nova Gorica, turn right and drive through the city center, where you definitely deserve an ice cream or other cold drink.
